Our Scottish history

EAE was originally established in 1987 by a consortium of nine heritage, cultural and tourism organisations in Edinburgh who wanted cost effective ways of getting their promotional print into the hands of potential audiences and customers. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society were involved with the initial EAE Start-up discussions through The Edinburgh Capital Group.

In 2000, Chief Executive, Glen Bennett, conducted a management buyout, becoming Managing Director of EAE and expanding its customer base and range of services. By 2016, EAE had grown into Scotland’s largest print distribution and display specialists servicing 2,400 merchandised display stands and 3,000 outlets from 10 regional storage and distribution centres stretching from the Northern Isles to the English border. The only Scottish distributor to offer a one-stop nation-wide service through Scotland and now the whole of the UK through Take One Media and Menzies Distribution Ltd.

In September 2016, Menzies Distribution acquired EAE.

Following University studies and a short spell as a chef, Glen set up EAE in 1987 for a consortia of nine culture and tourism organisations to develop leaflet marketing services in Edinburgh and the rest of Scotland. Glen conducted a management buy-out in 2000 and purchased EAE’s main competitor in 2005.

In September 2016, Glen sold his company, developed over 30 years, to Menzies Distribution and Take One Media. A classic business tale that continues to go from strength to strength. Having started a new company, developed the brand, built quality service and customer care, perhaps the hardest part is managing the other end.

Glen continues to lead, manage and develop EAE on a day to day basis for over 800 clients who wish to reach the home and visitor markets by bringing new display solutions to market. All while aiming for the elusive target of being a carbon neutral company by 2018.

Glen was the first to introduce Electric Vehicles to the EAE Distribution Fleet. EAE collects waste cardboard and plastic from client sites when vehicles are making return journeys to base. Waste is now separated, baled and sold on. In April 2014 EAE won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise; Sustainable Development. Our highest achievement and recognition of the fact we have removed over 80% of our carbon emissions since 2005.

Caroline started her career as a PA within Scottish & Newcastle Breweries and Diageo before moving to her first direct selling role within the interior design industry. In early 2003 Caroline started her career in the print distribution industry as Sales Manager for PPD based in Perth. Following the acquisition of PPD in 2007, Caroline continued in her role as EAE’s Sales Manager covering Scotland. Caroline played a key role with the transition of clients to EAE and the integration of both companies. Caroline’s main role was to help clients create the most effective campaigns, targeting their print distribution to the markets they wanted to reach at the right time and for the right duration. After a break of almost 6 years in a retail sales role within the flooring industry, Caroline is absolutely delighted to have re-joined the EAE/Take One Media print distribution team as Business Development Manager for Scotland and is so looking forward to renewing many of the strong customer relationships she had built up, and to establishing many new ones.
